Welcome to the second instalment of our series ‘Welcoming our new joiners’. In this series, we’re highlighting the amazing people who work behind the scenes at Virgin Mobile and help us build the leading-edge products and services that make mobile better for you.
This week, we’re meeting Ahmed, who joined us recently as a training coordinator.
Let’s get cracking!
So, who is Ahmed? And what does he do at Virgin Mobile?
Hey, I’m Ahmed Ramadan. I’m from Sudan, and I’ve started working at Virgin Mobile as a training coordinator. In my role, I prepare all sorts of training material that helps our team to make mobile better for our customers. I also design training modules, conduct training sessions, and follow up after the training to assess the effectiveness of the programs. It’s a big responsibility, but I love that my work helps our people.
How did you get into training?
Since college, I’ve had a passion for helping my colleagues. I have an ability to understand any topic, simplify it and explain to other people, helping them learn and understand what’s difficult for them. My first professional step was with a leading sportswear brand, where I started my career. I loved their products and discovered that there was a lot of potential to grow the training. I started to read and study on my own and was eventually chosen to be a training champion. The results that I achieve at the organizations I work for motivate me to be even more passionate about training and that’s what I want to bring to the Virgin Mobile team.
Tell us some non-work-related facts about yourself
I have acrophobia – that means I’m scared of heights, so no sky diving for me! Also, I’m 39 years old and no one believes that. Everyone says they can’t believe it. I’m also a crazy football fan. I support Arsenal. In Egypt (where I lived most of my life), I support a team called Al Ahly.
Why did you choose Virgin Mobile as a brand to work for?
I like the fact that Virgin Mobile has such a multicultural environment and is a brand that has a truly global footprint. I like the culture in the organization and the working environment as well. Also, working for a digital mobile company is a new challenge for me, coming from a sports and retail background. I want to transfer my skills from retail to the sector to help push the brand forwards.
What first attracted you to the role at Virgin Mobile?
The Virgin Mobile product is amazing. And after 14 years of retail experience, to take on a role in a completely different kind of business felt like a great challenge to take on. And so far, the culture, people, environment have all been amazing!
